Events in March

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. It’s a global day to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women in various fields and to advocate for gender equality.

International Women’s Day (IWD) helps to raise awareness about the challenges women still face around the world, and to promote women’s rights and empowerment.

Spring (March—May)

The season of spring begins in March for those in the northern hemisphere. Spring is traditionally associated with themes of new life, growth, and rejuvenation.

Symbols used to convey these include blossoming flowers and baby animals representing fertility and new life. The vibrant colors of spring, especially pastel shades, are often used as symbols of the season, representing freshness and optimism.

Symbols for spring are often the same as some of the major symbols associated with Easter, a prominent spring festival.

Ramadan (March and April)

Ramadan is a holy month observed by Muslims worldwide. This year, Ramadan begins on March 9 and will finish on April 8.

During this time, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, engage in spiritual reflection, and practice self-discipline as a means of worship.

The end of Ramadan is celebrated with a three-day festival called Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fast. Another important Islamic holiday is Eid al-Adha, which honors the willingness of the prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide with prayers, charitable acts, and other symbols of their devotion to Allah.

Events in April

World Autism Day

World Autism Day is observed on April 2 each year, with the whole month of April acknowledged as Autism Acceptance Month.

You might see this day referred to as ‘Autism Awareness Day’. However, it is increasingly more common to see it referenced as World Autism Day or Autism Acceptance Day. This is to reflect a shift towards inclusivity, acceptance and celebration of autistic people and their contribution to society.

At the moment, many of the items on Elements that represent autism use images of puzzle pieces. However, this has been criticized by members of the autistic community for perpetuating negative stereotypes and reinforcing the idea that autistic individuals are “puzzles” to be solved.

Many autistic individuals now prefer to use a gold or rainbow infinity symbol to promote acceptance, inclusivity, and the idea that autism is simply a natural part of human diversity.

We encourage Envato Authors to invest time and effort into creating assets that represent autism and autistic people in a more inclusive and accepting way, by using the infinity symbols instead of puzzle pieces.
