A few days later, on 24 June, is Midsummer (also known as Midsommar in places such as Sweden). Midsummer festivals are held all over the Northern Hemisphere where people gather around bonfires and Maypoles to celebrate the season.

Juneteenth, AKA Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is an annual holiday in the United States that commemorates the end of slavery. Its name derives from the date itself: 19 June, which marks the anniversary of Major General Gordon Granger ordering the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas.

Juneteenth has been celebrated by African Americans since the late 1800s and is used to recognize the end of slavery and to honor the history, culture, activism and achievements of African Americans.
